Clio Barnard

| Clio Barnard, director of The Arbor |
Clio Barnard was born in the same geographic area as well as time period as Andrea Dunbar. After reading Dunbar's play, she became intrigued by the playwriter. After interviewing the family of Andrea Dunbar, Clio directed The Arbor by having actors and actresses lip-sync with the interviewees' words. With this unique technique, Clio was trying to show the audience the difference between reality and representation. In this example of documentary theater Barnard shows viewers that even documentaries are often manipulated.

I think you did a great job incorporating visuals into your presentation! It was refreshing to be able to watch a video to obtain information instead of having to read four paragraphs worth of facts. The only thing I would recommend is that you add a bit more personal information about the director. This is my area of expertise in my group's presentation, and I was able to find loads of information about what our director has done outside of filmmaking. This is just a suggestion.

DeleteGood job with this page. I think maybe you could add some more information about the directors background. For example her awards and achievements. I like how you have links to other interviews. The only other thing that I can think of to possibly improve this blog page would be to make the directors' works a link to a site that they can be viewed. Well done.
ReplyDeleteI think that putting a picture at the top instead of jumping straight into your information is a great idea. to me it makes me feel like im more interesting in reading further on with what you have to share. And the interviews on you tube where a great addition as well. Makes the page have more great in sight on the film. This page was well done and i really liked it. I can agree with the first comment about how it would kind of interesting to read about the author and what he/she does outside of film work. Good job on the page though.

I found the information about the lip-sync interesting. The interview video clip was also good. This page really helped me learn about the directors.
ReplyDeleteThis comment is from Katlynn Stoll, I think that this page is really good! It was really interesting to see where the director got her inspiration to do this play/film. I feel that knowing why people choose to do the movies or films they do is always something that is of interest to me. I always want to know what their drive is and why their interested in this topic. I was always told that just about any choice you make is autobigraphical and says something about yourself. Great work here!
ReplyDeleteI really liked this page as well! You did a good job giving information about why the director chose to do this film. I also enjoyed the various pictures that you put up of the director. Very neat. I also enjoyed watching the video clip that you put on here. I wish you added a little bit more about the director herself, but other than that, great job!

I really like how you incorporated the picture and video into your blog. However I think it would have been helpful to have a little bit more information on Clio. I wanted to learn a little bit more about her. Otherwise, you did a very good job!

Good page I did not know that the director had the actors lip-sync with what the people actually said. I agree with the above post though. It would have been good if there was more information because my video stopped running after about a 1:30 so I didn’t really get as much information about the director as I would have liked

This was a very interesting page as well. It is fun to read through the rest of my groups' pages. Although we had the same movie, we have researched completely different things. I really like the interviews you added. I think it adds a special touch that we can almost see into the eyes of the people from the film. It was also interesting to see the other works of Clio. I found it quite intriguing that Clio grew up in the same area and time period as Andrea Dunbar. I think this gives her a better understanding of the situation.

I like how you incorporated different elements into your page, such as the videos and interviews. I think it really helps those of us who are viewing the blog to get a more accurate picture of the director. It's more than just words on a page, which is nice. Great job!

DeleteI really appreciated the videos that you included, as well as the pictures. I thought her concept of showing the difference between reality and reprensentation was really interesting and really effective.
ReplyDeleteRachel Keim: I really appreciated the video that you posted. I remembered hearing about the lip syncing in the movies, but I guess I never really noticed it that much. When the director talked about the technique, I found it quite interesting! Also, I really appreciated just being able to see the director on video; pictures are one thing, but video provides a whole new perspective. I felt it was a little more personal, and I could feel I knew her a little bit better just by seeing how she communicated. Very cool!
ReplyDeleteI also found a really neat You Tube video on the director that I thought complements yours well. Here's the link if you're interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yR1hCApX6E8
ReplyDeleteOne thing I really enjoyed was how you listed several interviews on your page. I found what they had to say very interesting. Very cool idea!
